Custom Officers Open Fire on 4 Residents While Chasing a Smuggler...See Photos

Customs officers have allegedly opened fire on some residents at Sycamore Junction, Ajara Topa area of Badagry, Lagos state.
It was gathered that stray bullets fired by the officers, who were attached to the federal operations unit, hit the four people that included a motorcycle rider, Alayoade Arewayo and one John Sonayo.
Arewayo survived and was rushed to a private hospital in Badagry, while Sonayo was said to have died in transit from the Badagry General Hospital to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

The other two, whose names could not be ascertained at press time, were reportedly taken to a hospital in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Punch reports that immediately the incident happened, the customs officers fled the scene. The customs officer then got reinforcements from a military barracks in the area to forestall a mob attack.
Arewayo, who sustained a gunshot injury in the leg, said he was returning from a church programme around 7.30pm on Saturday when he was hit by a stray bullet.
He said: “I had a crusade programme at Marina, Ebute area on that day. I had left the place for home when it started raining. I decided to call at a shop to buy noodles that I would take in the night.
One of the victims: Samson Folarin

”I had hardly dropped off my motorcycle, when I started hearing sporadic gunshots; people were running helter-skelter. I thought it was armed robbery. The people I wanted to buy noodles from had also taken to their heels.
”As I fled for dear life, I was hit by a bullet in the leg. I fell and was assisted to a hospital by my friend that was with me. It was later I was told that four people were shot and one person later died.”
It was learned that the customs officers neither went to the community in their operational vehicle nor wore their uniforms as they were led by one Jude.
A resident of the community, David Taiwo said he reported the incident at the Badagry police division about 8.30pm. Taiwo added that the divisional police officer assigned a policeman to visit the scene of the shooting.

He said: ”We discovered that the customs officers were from the federal operations unit in Ikeja; they were posted to Badagry. They were not in their operational vehicle and they didn’t wear their uniform. They came in a private car. They pursued a smuggler, who loaded about eight bags of rice.
”To effect arrest, they started shooting sporadically. Four innocent people were hit by bullets. One of them, John Sonayo, was taken to the Badagry General Hospital, but he was referred to LASUTH. It was on the way that he died. The family members of the other victims took them to Cotonou for treatments. The victims were not smugglers.”
Taiwo said the customs officers ran to Ibereko Barracks to get reinforcement against members of the community that had gathered to attack them.
A community leader said no fewer than 10 residents had been allegedly killed in 2016 by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, adding that the officers usually harassed residents.

”Sometimes, they move from house to house with the help of soldiers. They ransack houses and shops. People in Badagry now live in fear, ” he added.
Police public relations officer Dolapo Badmos confirmed that there was a shooting incident in the area, adding that the police had written the customs authorities for details.
She said: ”We have written to the customs authorities to furnish us with relevant facts that will aid our investigations into the matter.”
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS), Jerry Attah said he has not been briefed on the incident.

Attah said: ”But as a command, we don’t condone indiscipline and we don’t encourage our officers to shoot at harmless civilians. We will investigate the case.”
However, an official said those victims were smugglers, the customs service recovered two cars filled with smuggled rice from them.
He said: ”What happened that day was that some customs officers, attached to Iyafi checkpoint, apprehended two unregistered Passat Station Wagon loaded with smuggled rice along Sycamore Hotel Road. One of the vehicles was attacked by the smugglers en route to the customs office.

”Some of the customs officers fired several shots to secure their safety, thereby injuring two persons, while the two cars were forcefully released by the smugglers. One of the injured persons was taken to the general hospital where he later died. The other person is responding to treatment in a hospital in Badagry.”
Recently, Nigeria Customs seizeed N597.7bn bags of rice . The NCS announced that it seized tonnes of bags of rice valued at about N597.7 billion between January and August 2016 even as the commodity’s price skyrockets.

OMG:Read what Zidane said after Ronaldo insulted him and his mum...Photos

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane reacted to Ronaldo’s disrespect after substitution.

Ronaldo demonstrated horrible disrespect to Zinedine Zidane in their 2 – 2 draw away to Las Palmas. The three-time Balon d’Or winner was substituted in the 72nd minute. The Portuguese star was seen muttering various words under his breath as he made his way towards the dugout. Ronaldo couldn’t even look at Zidane and his sulk lasted for several more minutes as he watched the closing stages of the match from the sidelines.

But what was the Real Madrid star saying? According to
Sport, the 31-year-old said the Spanish equivalent of “your f**king mother” or “f**k you” in the direction of the Zidane. “Not just that, but he also said…a Portuguese expression somewhere between ‘f–k yourself’ and ‘for f–k’s sake,’” the source added.
Ronaldo and Zidane

And Zidane reacted: “It was not that [Ronaldo] was playing badly.  Cristiano must rest too sometimes. It was just for that. He was playing well. Tonight I took him off thinking of Tuesday’s game.”

When asked about Ronaldo’s reaction, Zidane noted:
“Angry? That would be your interpretation.”
However the manager stressed: “He always wants to be on the pitch. We have to take him out sometimes, and we did today. It does not change anything.”

Breaking!! Nigeria is already gettingout of recession says Finance minister

Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has urged Nigerians to be hopeful, stressing that the nation is almost gone out of recession.

Finance minister Kemi Adeosun says Nigeria’s days of woes are almost over.
The Minister of Finance, on Wednesday, September 29, said that the nation was already getting out of recession, saying the Federal Government had taken steps that were in the best interest of the citizens.

According to The Vanguard, Adeosun disclosed this in her closing remarks at a two-day conference of National Council of Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) in Abeokuta.
She said: “We are already getting out of recession because of the actions the Federal Government is taking, if you are in a problem, the day you start to step towards progression, you are already getting out of it.
“The government is investing more in capital than we have ever invested, we are sorting out infrastructures, we are stopping wastage and so the sign of recovery is already there.

“Agriculture and solid mineral are already starting to grow and so they are responding to our policy initiative and we are expected to continue in that direction. “Nigeria is getting out of the trouble that we have found ourselves, we are turning things around and I believe everybody is united and everybody that were here represented the 36 states,” she said.
Adeosun also urged all the State Commissioners for Finance, Accountant-General and all finance professionals to always take stock and also compute their own balance sheet, saying it would assist them before decisions were taken.
She explained that the move would allow the states to know their liabilities, strengths and ways to go about their finances in the future, adding that it would in no small measure helped the Federal Government.

“We need to take stock, one of the most important thing I want to encourage all to do is to compute your own balance sheet, what are your assets, what are your liability, know your position.
“What are those pension liability, contractors liabilities that are hidden, bring them out, compute them, know them, it is very important.
“One of those things we have realised in the Federal level is that if that had been done we would have probably made better decisions in the past.
“If you don’t have the data you can carry on spending as if all is well only for a problem to come out as it has done in our own case to affect us.
“I just want to charge everybody to quietly compute your balance sheet and know it so that you can make decisions that really have the full picture,” she said.
In a similar vein, Dr Williams Kumuyi has said that Nigeria would soon get out of its economic challenges.

Speaking in Abuja, on Wednesday, September 27, 2016, Kumuyi said the country would soon get back on its feet economically.
Nigeria is currently faced with serious economic recession with the government constantly informing that it is doing all within its powers to resolve the crisis.
“We all know that we are passing through a tunnel but by the Grace of God, we’re going to get to the light at the end of the tunnel…and very soon the Lord is going to give us a turn around and there is going to be a change in our nation,” Kumuyi reportedly prophesied at a religious event in the country’s capital city.
Daily Trust reports that the man of God warned against selling the nation’s assets saying this may not be the best solution.

He said God would soon solve the problems facing the country just as he urged residents of Abuja to draw closer to God to solve their individual needs.
Kumuyi also commended Buhari on the fight against corruption in the country.

Buhari Says Nigeria Will Overcome Its Problems

President Muhammadu Buhari has given the assurance that Nigeria has the people and the resources to surmount her economic problems.

The president was speaking during the meeting with the president of the African Development Bank (ADB), Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, at State House, Abuja, on September 26, Monday.
Buhari said: “ God has given us people and resources. It will take hard work on our part, but we will make it. We will get out of our problems. We are determined to produce what we eat, and stop importation. We will also chase those who stole, and get them to refund.”

He noted that the country appreciates assisting hands being lent by the bank, assuring Nigerian-born Adesina, who was the ex-minister of agriculture, that “ we will not let you down. Your country won’t disappoint you.”
Adesina commended the country’s president for successes recorded in securing the country, especially in the north east, stating that “there can be no development without adequate security.”
“You can count on the ADB as a true friend of Nigeria. You should support massive investment in infrastructure, and we are here to also support. Closing the infrastructure deficit will enable growth, and create employment. Nigeria is too big to fail, ” he said.

The overarching objective of the ADB Group is to spur sustainable economic development and social progress in its regional member countries (RMCs), thus contributing to poverty reduction.
President Buhari just yesterday, September 25, returned from the official visit to the USA, where he took part in the 71th United Nations General Assembly.
It was Buhari’s second appearance at the UNGA since he took office last year and he participated in all the events.
Speaking to the journalists before his departure from New York the Nigeria’s leader listed all discussions he had during his stay and said he was undeterred in efforts to create enabling environment for investments to thrive in Nigeria.

Children who ate breakfast functioned intellectually at almost a grade level higher than those who did not, and were less likely to fall asleep at their desks or disrupt class lessons because of hunger. The same goes for adults. Eating breakfast improves the ability to concentrate, reduces the risk of heart disease, improves weight control, accelerate growth, increases strength and energy. Check out sumptuous pictures of meals ideal for breakfast

1. Toasted waffles and Coffee

2. Tea, bread and Egg

3. Cereals, rasins with strawberry

4. Oats and Akara

5. Checken vegetable sauce, rice and curry.

Many studies have linked eating breakfast to good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, and lower chances of getting diabetes, heart disease, and being overweight.
Skipping the morning meal can throw off your body’s rhythm and balance of fasting and eating. When you wake up, the blood sugar  your body needs  to make your muscles and brain work their best is usually low. Breakfast helps replenish it.

6. Plantain, stew and chicken

If your body doesn’t get that fuel from food, you may feel drained of energy — and you’ll be more likely to over eat later in the day.
Breakfast also gives you a chance to get in some vitamins and nutrients from healthy foods like dairy, grains, and fruits. If you don’t eat it, you aren’t likely to get all of the nutrients your body needs.
Many people skip the a.m. meal because they’re rushing to get out the door. That’s a mistake. You need food in your system long before lunchtime. If you don’t eat first thing, you may get so hungry later on that you snack on high-fat, high sugar foods.

Page Review: Nigeria's debt rises by #4.17tn in 1 year as President Muhammadu Buhari seeks help(Photos)

Nigerian
newspapers on Wednesday, September 21, have focused on the country’s debt profile, President Muhammadu Buhari’s participation at 71st Session of the UN General Assembly, Supreme Court’s verdict on Kogi governorship election, amongst other trending stories.
According to a report on The Punch, Nigeria’s debt profile has risen to N16.29tn, the Debt Management Office has said.

Statistics obtained from the DMO on Tuesday, September 20, showed that the country’s total debt liability had risen to N16.29tn as of June 30, 2016. As of June 2015, the country’s total debt stood at N12.12tn.
This means that within the one-year period (July 2015 to June 2016), the country’s total debt rose by N4.17tn, or 34.41%.
A breakdown of the country’s debt profile shows that external debt by the federal and state governments stood at $11.26bn or N3.19tn as of June 30, 2016. It was $10.32bn or N2.03tn by July last year.

This follows a speech he delivered in New York, United States at the United Nations, where he urged the United States and United Kingdom to return Nigeria’s stolen cash lodged in their banks.
The President expressed optimism that stolen cash and assets in the West will be returned to Nigeria in 2017.
In his speech at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and his second as President, Buhari insisted that fighting corruption remains the main focus of his administration.

The speech reads in parts: “Fighting corruption remains a cardinal pillar of our administration. Corruption freezes development, thereby undermining the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I am pleased that our efforts in fighting corruption are yielding positive results including significant stolen assets recoveries.
“The recovered funds are being channelled towards the development of critical infrastructure and the implementation of social inclusion programmes for our people. We are also strengthening our capacity of government entities to institutionalise reforms to ensure transparency and good governance.

“The Anti -Corruption Summit held in London, in May this year, served as further reassurance of the global community’s commitment to fight corruption through proposed practical steps to address challenges including actions to hold perpetrators to justice within the law. Nigeria supports the development of an international legal framework to enforce anti-corruption measures and strengthen existing international institutions to effectively deal with corrupt practices.

“Nigeria calls on member states that are yet to sign up to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) to do so. Nigeria will continue to advocate for the facilitation of the recovery of illicit financial assets.
“Indeed, the speedy and unconditional return of stolen public assets should be the focus of the follow-up anti-corruption conference to be hosted by the US and UK in Washington, next year.”

In a swift response, United States President Barack Obama praised President Buhari for allowing flexibility in exchange rates, The Nation reports.
They also discussed ways of countering the Boko Haram militant group.
Moving on, Vanguard reports that the lack of proper coordination between the nation’s fiscal and monetary authorities has become manifest as the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN on Tuesday, September 20, refused to cut interest rate, as expressed by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, who briefed the press at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), meeting in Abuja, said that rate cuts in the past did not result in banks giving credits to the real sectors of agriculture and manufacturing, as instructed.
He said a cut in the rate at a time the inflation is rising could worsen the nation’s economic situation.

A lot of people have found this behavior very offensive and disrespectful to God, as they kept passing all sorts of negative comments to her.But what was she thinking. Instead of a Bible she should have used a novel instead.
